Hisar terms of service
Effective 11 October 2026. These terms are an agreement between you and Alper Berber ("we", "us"), for the hosted Hisar service at api.tryhisar.com and the Hisar apps, command-line tool and browser extension ("Hisar"). By creating an account or using Hisar you agree to them. How we handle data is described in the privacy policy.
1. The service
Hisar stores your passwords, SSH keys and other secrets end-to-end encrypted, syncs them between your devices and lets you share vaults with people you invite. Accounts are by invitation only. Hisar is under active development: features may change, and we may add, change or remove parts of it.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 16 years old and give a correct email address.
- You are responsible for your master password, your Secret Key and your Emergency Kit, and for the devices you sign in on. Keep the Emergency Kit somewhere safe.
- We cannot recover your account. We never have your master password or Secret Key. If you lose your master password, or lose your Secret Key together with every signed-in device, the data only you could open is lost, and we cannot restore it.
- Tell us at support@tryhisar.com if you think someone else has accessed your account.
3. Acceptable use
Do not use Hisar to break the law or to harm others. In particular, do not:
- store or share content, or send share links, that is illegal or that you have no right to share, including malware and phishing;
- send invitations or share invitations to people who did not ask for them in bulk, or otherwise use our email to spam;
- try to get into accounts or data that are not yours, probe or attack the service, or get around its rate limits;
- put an unreasonable load on the service, or resell it without our written permission.
Because your data is encrypted, we cannot see what you store. We act on reports and on what we can see, such as abuse of email or of the service.
4. Your data
What you store in Hisar stays yours. You give us only the permission we need to store, sync and deliver it as the service works. You can stop using Hisar at any time and delete your account in the apps (Settings → Account) or by emailing support@tryhisar.com, as the privacy policy describes. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.
5. Fees
Hisar is currently free of charge. If we introduce paid plans, we will tell you in advance, and nothing you did not agree to will be charged.
6. Suspension and ending
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or other users at risk. Where we can, we warn you first and give you time to take your data out. If we stop running the service, we will give at least 60 days notice so you can move your data.
7. No warranty
We work to keep Hisar secure and available, but it is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. No service can promise to be free of errors, interruptions or security problems.
8. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, or for lost data, profits or business, and our total liability for any claim about Hisar is limited to EUR 100. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for intent or gross negligence, or your rights as a consumer under mandatory law.
9. Changes
We may update these terms. We update the date at the top, and for significant changes we tell you in the apps or by email before they take effect. If you keep using Hisar after that, the new terms apply; if you do not agree, you can stop using Hisar and delete your account.
10. Law
These terms are governed by Dutch law, and disputes go to the competent courts of the Netherlands. If you are a consumer, this does not take away the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in, or your right to go to the courts there.
